Nigeria v Cameroon Betting Tips
We’re surprised to see Nigeria trading as favourites to win this African Cup of Nations match, with the Super Eagles having missed out on Group B top spot after a shock 2-0 defeat by Madagascar.
Gernot Rohr’s team had previously enjoyed successive 1-0 wins over Burundi and Guinea, with most expecting them to complete the set of victories by beating the Barea, although they were stunned and must now prepare for a tougher last sixteen clash.
Scoring goals is clearly a problem for the Nigerians, with late winners scored in their two openers, although Odion Ighalo didn’t get much of a sniff in the final game and this seems like a team who are short of attacking creativity and rely more on being defensively solid.
Cameroon’s performances during the group stage were fairly bright despite goalless draws against Ghana and Benin. The Indomitable Lions should really have beaten the former and had some good chances to score during the encounter.
Against Benin, both teams were fairly happy to play out a goalless draw, although we’ve been impressed by Christian Bassogog and Karl Toko Ekambi in the wide attacking positions, with Stephane Bahoken waiting in the wings to also have an effect.
Clarence Seedorf’s team are now unbeaten in the past seven matches, all of which have taken place in 2019 and we’re happy to back Cameroon at the odds of 2/1 to win this encounter.
If we were a bookmaker, we’d be making the Indomitable Lions slight favourites against a Nigerian team who were beaten by Senegal in the lead-up to this tournament and also held to a goalless draw by Zimbabwe.
We’re surprised that Alex Iwobi isn’t being given an opportunity to start games and feel as though the momentum is with the Cameroonians in this clash.
