Chile v Peru Betting Tips
Chile have won the past two renewals of the Copa America and we’re happy to back La Roja to reach the 2019 final by beating Peru this week.
The reigning champions famously failed to qualify for the 2018 World Cup and their absence was felt, although they have largely performed well in this tournament which opened with a 4-0 drubbing of guests Japan.
A 2-1 victory over Ecuador then followed before a slender defeat against Uruguay, although Chile were able to outplay Colombia in their quarter final before emerging on penalties.
Indeed, the Chileans seem to be masterful when it comes to a penalty shootout in a Copa America, although there’s a strong case for them not needing extra time or spot kicks when it comes to this tie.
Peru scrambled through against Uruguay at the last eight stage, winning on spot kicks after having to scrap hard to hold La Celeste to a goalless draw after 120 minutes.
The Peruvians opened with a goalless draw against Venezuela and then only came to life when falling behind against Bolivia to earn a 3-1 win. However, they came crashing down to earth after being thrashed 5-0 by Brazil.
Ricardo Gareca’s side had a tough game against Uruguay before coming through and perhaps they will reach the end of the line when facing a Chile team who have bags of experience when it comes to business end matches in the Copa America.
Alexis Sanchez and Eduardo Vargas have been a lively twin threat throughout the tournament, while Arturo Vidal has now earned 105 caps for his country, with the Barcelona man a class act in the midfield department.
Chile should have overcome Colombia and now face more modest opposition. Peru might try to opt for spoiling tactics but that 5-0 whipping by Brazil is hard to forget and we’re backing the favourites to inflict maximum damage.
