Japan v Chile Betting Tips
It’s worth noting that Chile are the reigning Copa America champions, with La Roja having triumphed in the United States three years ago when beating Argentina on penalties in the final.
The previous year saw them beat the same opponents on home soil, although they were unable to qualify for the 2018 World Cup, so it’s hard to judge how good this team are and if they stand any chance of defending their title in Brazil.
They have at least been handed an easy opener and Reinaldo Rueda’s side are strong favourites to overcome a Japan side who are making a guest appearance at this tournament.
Chile have plenty of experience in the ranks, with captain Gary Medel now playing his club football for Besiktas, while Alexis Sanchez will hope to bounce back from an underwhelming season at Manchester United and fire in a few goals during the Copa America campaign.
Arturo Vidal is a midfield lynchpin and there are several other experienced players within the squad, although results haven’t been particularly convincing despite the fact that you can’t read too much into friendlies.
The Chileans most recently drew 1-1 with the USA after previously losing 3-1 to Mexico although the last time they played a competitive match was the failed attempt to qualify for Russia 2018.
By contrast, Japan are more battle-hardened, with the Blue Samurai having reached the final of the Asian Cup to effectively qualify to play in this tournament and Hajime Moriyasu’s side won’t be there to make up the numbers.
Japan brushed every team aside on the way to reaching the Asian Cup final before that surprise defeat against Qatar, although they might find life difficult against a Chile team with a point to prove after a relatively long time in the football wilderness.
If Sanchez is fit and firing, he can be the difference between the two teams and we’re backing the South American side to win the game.
