Brighton v Newcastle Premier League betting preview and tips
Brighton are doing their level best to get dragged into a relegation dogfight. Consecutive home defeats against Bournemouth and Cardiff means that the Seagulls are still short of the required points total to be safe.
At the time of writing, Chris Hughton’s side sit just above the drop zone and they’re only two points clear of the drop zone, with the Brighton manager coming face-to-face with a club he knows well after previously holding the managerial reins at St James’ Park.
After winning 2-1 at Selhurst Park on 9 March, it looked unlikely that the Sussex club would be caught up in a dogfight, although there were five consecutive defeats from the end of March to the middle of April which makes things somewhat precarious.
There were no goals scored during that five-game period, with Glenn Murray having drawn a blank in the past six games although it’s not as though Brighton should rely on their veteran striker to make things happen.
In truth, Brighton have struggled to recruit correctly, with Alireza Jahanbakhsh having arrived for £17 million and failed to make an impact this season. Pascal Gross also hasn’t enjoyed the same impact as last season.
As for Newcastle, they shouldn’t have any relegation fears after accruing thirty-eight points from thirty-four matches and the Magpies are in a good moment after winning four of their past eight games.
This includes a victory at Leicester and they were able to win the clash with minimal possession with Miguel Almiron having made a big impact since arriving from Atlanta in January.
Newcastle have only won three matches in seventeen away encounters, so we’re reluctant to back the Magpies to win at the AMEX Stadium, especially as a draw will keep their opponents at arm’s length.
However, we can back the visitors on the Asian Handicap knowing that a draw will mean money back, while the away win will secure the money.
