Everton’s strange season continued over Christmas, with the Toffees getting royally thrashed 6-2 against Tottenham before a 5-1 drubbing of Burnley.

The bookies go odds-on that Marco Silva’s team beat Leicester but you’re betting on a team that have only won 50% of their games at Goodison Park, recently stumbling against the likes of Newcastle, Watford and Spurs.

Perhaps that 5-1 victory at Turf Moor has set them along the right path, although Leicester have had their own memorable Christmas, winning matches against Chelsea and Manchester City against all the odds.

It appeared that Claude Puel looked to be on the verge of leaving following some insipid performances, although the team have rallied and they find themselves above their opponents in the table coming into this match.

The Foxes have achieved four wins on the road this term and that recent success at Stamford Bridge was a real shock, with Ricardo Pereira and Wes Morgan making an unlikely central defensive pairing.

Hamza Choudhury is also making an impression in midfield, with the youngster having only played a handful of games and there’s a real feelgood factor about a team who have suffered the tragedy of losing their own in recent months.

We’ve got two evenly-matched teams clashing on Merseyside and it makes obvious sense to back this match to end all square rather than plump for the skinny odds about a home win.

There is a temptation to get with Leicester although that win at Chelsea was slightly freakish and we expect Everton to challenge hard and look a good deal tougher defensively than they have previously been.

It’s a result which would keep both teams in contention to be “best of the rest” behind Arsenal and Manchester United, with Jamie Vardy looking sharp for the visitors after being in and out of the team.
