Southampton v Arsenal Betting Tips
Ralph Hasenhuttl has now entered the building at St Mary’s and this match represents the Austrian’s first Premier League home game since replacing Mark Hughes at Southampton.
Hasenhuttl arrives with an impressive reputation after some sterling work at RB Leipzig, although he’s got a formidable task with a Saints team who have been struggling at the wrong end of the table for the past couple of seasons.
The bottom line is that Southampton haven’t won in front of their own supporters all season, having recently taken the lead against Manchester United when scoring two early goals only to allow the Red Devils to slip back into the game.
Scoring goals has been a problem for the Saints and the new manager would love to get Danny Ings back and firing, although Charlie Austin and Stuart Armstrong also provide some ammunition and it’s up to the new boss to find the right combination in attack.
It has not been since 1 September that the Hampshire side have tasted victory and Arsenal are not the sort of team to pass up an opportunity to take advantage of a side who are down on their luck or confidence.
The season began for the Gunners with successive defeats against Manchester City and Chelsea. Since then, Arsenal haven’t been defeated despite that incredible stat that Unai Emery’s side haven’t led at half-time in any Premier League match this season.
It’s safe to say that the north London side will be well rested for this clash and Emery will have fielded a reserve team for Thursday’s previous clash against Qarabag, meaning that the likes of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Alexandre Lacazette and Lucas Torreira will be raring to go.
Arsenal have not been defensively the strongest team in the Premier League but they’re very exciting from an attacking point-of-view and it’s saying something when Mesut Ozil can’t get into the team.
Expect the Gunners to continue to impress against a Southampton side who might not yet have adjusted to the methods of their new gaffer.
