Southampton v West Ham Premier League betting preview and tips
Things were looking bleak for Southampton until the club rather sensibly decided to dispose of Mark Hughes and hire a manager who has breathed new life into the set-up at St Mary’s.
Ralph Hasenhuttl engineered a fantastic performance against Arsenal in the team’s previous home game which saw the Saints score three headed goals to end the Gunners’ unbeaten run. More importantly, they landed a maximum haul and played with far greater desire than previously.
Even so, it’s hard to back them to beat a West Ham team who are enjoying a four-match winning run at the time of writing. The Hammers are having a great run despite the absence of key players such as Marko Arnautovic and Manuel Lanzini.
Manuel Pellegrini has brought Robert Snodgrass in from the cold and the Scot has repaid his manager’s faith with some stellar performances, with the team adopting an attacking philosophy which has been reaping dividends.
While the temptation might be to back Southampton due to their newly-found resurgence, West Ham don’t look ripe for the taking any more and we could see an entertaining encounter that might very well end in a draw.
It would represent a satisfactory outcome for both sides and the Hammers scored eleven goals in four consecutive matches following a 4-0 thrashing at the hands of Manchester City which illustrates their attacking prowess at the moment.
Similarly, Danny Ings and Charlie Austin are looking sharp for the Saints and it appears that the approach will be to whip in crosses to continue with the headed goal theme that was established against Arsenal.
