An intriguing match-up between the champions of Netherlands and champions of Italy, with Ajax coming into the quarter finals off the back of beating holders Real Madrid 5-3 on aggregate.

There was nothing fluky about the way that the Amsterdam team served it up at the Bernabeu and they will feel confident of toppling another European giant, especially after noting that Atletico Madrid took a 2-0 first leg lead in the previous round against Juventus.

Erik ten Hag will feel partially relieved that his team have avoided Manchester City and Barcelona, while the Dutchman will not feel the prospect of facing Juve over two legs is any more daunting than a Real Madrid side who they overcame in the previous round.

Cristiano Ronaldo was able to inspire a comeback thanks to his hat-trick and Juve will feel as though they are now destined to finally land another European Cup title, with the Italian side having been knocking on the door for the past few years.

Max Allegri’s side will have learnt from drawing a blank at the Wanda Metropolitano in the previous round and giving themselves so much work to do for the second leg, with the visitors likely to get on the front foot here.

We’re expecting an open match of football, especially considering that eight goals were scored in the two games between Ajax and Real Madrid in the previous round, with the Dutch side capable of playing some lovely football.

One does wonder if they simply capitalised against a Real side who were coming to the end of a legacy which had seen them win four of the previous five renewals, although they can ill-afford to head to Turin with any kind of deficit.

We can see Juventus edging this game but are happier to go for both sides finding the net, with that man Ronaldo now looking to spearhead his team’s European campaign knowing that some of the main rivals have more difficult opponents.
