Atletico Madrid v Juventus Champions League betting preview

While games between Liverpool and Bayern Munich promise to be entertaining affairs, the clashes between Atletico and Juventus are likely to be altogether more dour despite the presence of Antoine Griezmann and Cristiano Ronaldo on opposing teams.

Neither of these sides would have wanted to draw each other at this early juncture in the competition, although Borussia Dortmund winning their Champions League group led Atleti to be one of the runner-up teams in the knockout phase and they now have to find a way of beating the Italian champions.

Diego Simeone has a strong track record in this competition and he also saw his team win the Europa League last season after finishing third in their Champions League group, with the Argentine now attempting to orchestrate a home win before a return trip to Turin.

Atletico have been watertight at the Wanda Metropolitano Stadium and they enjoyed victories by two-goal margins against Club Brugge, Monaco and Dortmund, although this is an altogether different kettle of fish.

Juventus won their Champions League group by winning four of their six games, with the Old Lady landing three straight victories before surprisingly losing at home to Manchester United.

Cristiano Ronaldo will return to Madrid, the city where he has spent the bulk of his playing career operating for Real and he has often been the chief tormentor of the Mattress Makers, with the Portuguese forward clearly a dangerous threat.

Max Allegri’s side are already nine points clear at the top of Serie A and won’t need to focus too hard on domestic matters, with preference given to Juventus on the Asian Handicap market off scratch which means money back if this clash ends all square.

A low goal count looks likely and Under 2.5 Goals is trading at short odds although we think it could be Juve who edge out Atletico in what looks sure to be a tight encounter.
