Barcelona v Tottenham Champions League betting preview and tips

It’s always tricky to judge a match where one team doesn’t need anything from the match while the other needs to claim a victory.

Under normal circumstances, Barcelona would be trading at 1.25 or thereabouts to beat Spurs in the Champions League, having won 4-2 at Wembley in the reverse fixture and demonstrated that they continue to be among the best in Europe.

However, four wins and a draw from their five group matches played means that Ernesto Valderde’s side simply need to fulfil this fixture and it’s worth noting that Barca aren’t running away with La Liga this season, currently sitting second behind Sevilla.

This match will follow hard on the heels of a visit to Espanyol, with further matches against Levante and Celta Vigo taking place before the Christmas break and it might be that we see key players like Lionel Messi and Philippe Coutinho rested.

Internazionale might hope that some fairness is shown from the Catalan side in terms of team selection, although this is simply great timing from a Spurs point-of-view and they know a victory will take them through to the last sixteen despite taking just a point from their first three matches.

Tottenham are on something of a roll after wins against Chelsea and Inter, meaning they have enjoyed six victories on the spin and they will have rested players ahead of this clash when having a Premier League engagement with Leicester the Saturday before.

Mauricio Pochettino was able to engineer a way past Inter despite only bringing Christian Eriksen and Son Heung-Min off the bench, with Spurs looking an enticing price to land the victory they need in Spain.
