Man Utd v Barcelona Champions League betting preview and tips

Champions League
Tip: Under 2.5 Goals
Units: 1/5
Odds: +110

Manchester United have done brilliantly to reach the last eight of the Champions League although the plain truth is that the Red Devils had an enormous slice of luck to overcome Paris Saint-Germain.

For starters, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side didn’t face Neymar and Edinson Cavani in either of the two matches, with Kylian Mbappe the only star forward on display and the Frenchman was strangely profligate in front of goal at the Parc des Princes.

Secondly, United were able to capitalise on some poor defensive mistakes made by PSG en route to claiming an aggregate win on away goals, while the awarding of a late penalty was massively fortunate considering the referee didn’t initially deem the offence as worthy of a spot kick.

While Solskjaer has enjoyed a honeymoon period at Old Trafford, there are cracks now starting to appear, with Wolves beating Manchester United in the FA Cup and that came shortly after the Red Devils lost at the Emirates Stadium.

The Norwegian still deserves enormous credit for what he’s done in a short space of time but it looks a massive task for United to overcome a Barcelona team who are romping clear at the top of La Liga and that means they can give some primary focus to the Champions League.

Leo Messi has scored 29 times in La Liga this season and remains at the peak of his powers, with the 31-year-old looking to win his fifth Champions League title with the Catalan club after successes in 2006, 2009, 2011 and 2015.

Manchester United will clearly try to tame him and his Barca team-mates, with Lyon doing a good job of shackling the Spanish side in the first leg of their last sixteen tie by drawing 0-0.

The Red Devils will be aiming for a similar outcome and denying Barcelona any away goals will still give them a glimmer of hope in terms of progressing. Therefore, we should expect the home side to adopt a defensive game plan and hope to keep the visitors at bay.
