2025/26 Bundesliga Betting Preview

Bayer Leverkusen managed to break the Bayern Munich stranglehold in the 2023/24 season, with Xabi Alonso’s side going unbeaten throughout the campaign. Previously to this, it had been an eleven-season winning procession for the Bavarian outfit and they returned to the winner’s enclosure last season.

Vincent Kompany’s side were a comfortable thirteen points clear at the top of the standings, winning twenty-five of their thirty-four matches. It’s hardly a surprise that they are trading as heavy odds-on favourites to retain their title this time around. The squad is bulging with world-class players and the bookies afford them a 78% chance of winning the German Bundesliga.

You could argue that 1.28 with the best football betting sites is actually a value price. Many bettors will put these odds in an accumulator. They were well ahead of Bayer Leverkusen last term and the latter have been severely weakened this summer. Die Schwarzroten have seen manager Xabi Alonso leave for Real Madrid, with some of the star players also exiting the club.

Florian Wirtz and Jeremie Frimpong have both departed for Liverpool, with Erik ten Hag now hoping to steer the club to success. The Dutchman had a largely unhappy spell at Manchester United following a better time of things with Ajax. Perhaps it will take him a while to find his feet considering that the title-winning side of 2023/24 have been dismantled to a large extent.

Leverkusen Main Challenger

The slight advantage for Leverkusen is that Bayern Munich had Club World Cup involvement during the summer. They reached the quarter-final stage of that competition before being beaten by Paris Saint-Germain. However, the champions have captured Luis Díaz from Liverpool and Jonathan Tah from their main title rivals, with Leroy Sane, Eric Dier and Thomas Muller all leaving the Allianz Arena.

Harry Kane remains a predator in front of goal for the title favourites and his goals alone will count for a great deal in terms of the title landscape. Leverkusen have been busy in the transfer market with the proceeds of the Wirtz funds. Jarell Quansah has arrived from Liverpool and could become something special, with the central defender struggling to get game time at the Merseyside club.

There has also been the capture of Ibrahim Maza from Hertha Berlin, Mark Flekken from Brentford, Loic Bade from Sevilla, Claudio Echeverri from Manchester City, Janis Blaswich from RB Leipzig along with Ernest Poku arriving from AZ Alkmaar. However, it could be a season of transition from Leverkusen and perhaps they might not even finish second to Bayern Munich. Borussia Dortmund fared well in the Club World Cup before losing 3-2 to Real Madrid at the quarter-final stage.

BVB only managed to finish fourth in the Bundesliga last season although they have traditionally been Bayern’s main rivals. They have added Jobe Bellingham to the squad who follows in his brother’s footsteps and arrives from Sunderland, while Yan Couto will also play a lot after arriving from Manchester City.

RB Leipzig are facing Bayern in the season opener and the Red Bulls are the only other team who can surely challenge for the title, although the side could only manage a lowly seventh place last time out. There has been a huge overhaul of the squad last season, with Arthur Vermeeren, Romulo Cruz and Ezechiel Banzuzi notable captures already this summer.
