Leeds v Derby Betting Tips
Although Leeds United don’t need to beat Derby County on Wednesday, we think the Whites are a decent price to land a fourth victory of the season against a Rams side who never seem to get a handle against their Yorkshire opponents.
Leeds won 4-1 at Derby back in August before beating Frank Lampard’s team 2-0 at Elland Road. On Saturday teatime, they were able to claim a 1-0 win at Pride Park and they were simply too strong for a team who squeezed into the play-offs on the final day of the regular season.
Marcelo Bielsa will be missing the injured Kemar Roofe for the second leg, although Patrick Bamford will return from suspension and the forward will clearly be fresh after a two-game suspension. Before that, he had been in excellent form.
There’s little danger that Leeds will rest on their laurels in this clash, with United only boasting a one-goal advantage and we should give little emphasis to their poor form leading into the play-offs which saw them take a point from four matches.
During that quartet of games, Leeds regularly registered more shots on target than their opponents and they were superior to Derby in that regard last weekend along with having more possession.
With an intimidating crowd at Elland Road wanting to cheer their team to Wembley, we’re not sure that Derby are particularly equipped to turn the tie on its head and they will go forward knowing that there’s always a chance of being exposed on the break.
Perhaps Mason Mount and Harry Wilson will conjure some magic, although it’s a night which requires physicality and a steely resolve, with Tom Huddlestone potentially coming back into the team alongside Bradley Johnson.
Striking options are fairly limited and Lampard would dearly love to have Martyn Waghorn back in attack, with Jack Marriott having gone seriously off the boil and it was left to David Nugent to play as a forward in the last match.
