It might have escaped your notice but Newcastle are enjoying a big winning run at St James’ Park at the moment and they can be backed with a degree of confidence for this clash against Crystal Palace.

Although the Magpies have actually lost more (8) than they have won (7) on Tyneside this season, they haven’t looked back since beating Cardiff in mid-January and then came that 2-1 win over Manchester City where Newcastle came back from a goal down to beat the champions.

Rafael Benitez’s side then enjoyed 2-0 wins over Huddersfield and Burnley before that excellent comeback victory against Everton and the mood is better around the club than it has been for several years.

Benitez is arguably the best manager in the Premier League in terms of engineering good results with a modest squad of players and the acquisition of Miguel Almiron has given the team a much-needed boost.

Crystal Palace are similarly placed in the Premier League table, with the Eagles having collected the lion’s share of the points on the road and they do seem better suited to exploiting gaps away from home.

There have been recent victories away to Doncaster, Leicester and Burnley before an FA Cup semi-final defeat at Watford, with Roy Hodgson’s men now looking to secure enough points to ensure top-flight safety.

However, Wilfried Zaha continues to be the team’s talisman far too much of the time and neither Michy Batshuayi or Christian Benteke are convincing options in attack.

By way of contrast, Jose Salomon Rondon and Ayoze Perez are clicking up front for a Newcastle team who will be keen to keep making St James’ Park a fortress between now and the end of the season.
