Newcastle v Southampton Premier League betting preview and tips
Newcastle and Southampton are perched in the bottom six places of the Premier League table, although both clubs are likely to survive in the top flight for another season.
The Magpies have collected 35 points from their 33 matches played, with Rafael Benitez’s side recently rallying at St James’ Park to collect victories over Cardiff, Manchester City, Huddersfield, Burnley and Everton.
However, there have more recently been defeats against Arsenal and Crystal Palace, with the Tyneside club having been beaten nine times in front of their own fans this season and that’s as many as any club in the Premier League with the exception of Huddersfield.
Southampton are currently two points behind their opponents having played a game less, although the Saints seem to be a decent proposition under Ralph Hasenhuttl, with victories over Fulham, Tottenham and Brighton giving the Hampshire side a little breathing space.
The Saints also served it up recently against Liverpool, taking the lead and holding the title chasers until ten minutes remaining when a blistering counter-attack goal from Mohamed Salah got the Merseyside team over the line.
While Southampton have only won four away games this season, they might show more adventure when it comes to going forward and creating chances, while it should be borne in mind that both sides will be reasonably happy with a point.
We like getting with the visitors on the Asian Handicap which offers some insurance if the game ends all square, with the added bonus of getting paid at odds-against should the visitors claim the victory.
Benitez could be coming to the end of his time at St James’ Park and even the recruitment of Miguel Almiron does not mean that this Newcastle side are anything other than a team who play pragmatically and aim to rack up enough points simply to remain in the top flight.
