Mark Hughes faces D-Day on Saturday and it might not be pretty at St Mary’s, even if Manchester United failed to despatch Crystal Palace last weekend and had a Champions League date against Young Boys on Tuesday.

Indeed, the latter match will have given the Red Devils some shooting practice and they will arrive feeling confident of taking advantage of a side that lost 3-2 at Fulham last weekend and very much look like a team in need of a managerial change.

Hughes has failed to convince as a manager since hanging up his boots and this could be his final Premier League assignment, with so many hard luck excuses being made to explain the various poor results that his team have encountered this season.

The good news is that Danny Ings should be back in the team and he adds a sparky threat in attack, with the Saints capable of finding the net in this encounter although the big question is whether they can stop United scoring.

Anthony Martial has been in scoring form recently, with Romelu Lukaku looking to get back on the Premier League goal trail and Mourinho knows that his team have to win these sort of matches to compete for a place in the top four this term.

Southampton’s home form is 0-4-2 so we probably shouldn’t be too keen to go big on an away win considering Chelsea and Leicester are the only teams who have won at St Mary’s this term.

In addition, United haven’t always been the best in show on the road and they will be up against a team for whom a draw doesn’t really represent the right sort of outcome for the manager to keep himself in a job.
