Internazionale improved on their seventh placing in Serie A two seasons ago to land fourth spot last term, edging out Lazio on a head-to-head record despite having an inferior goal difference.

It means that the Milan side are back in the Champions League and brings back memories of Jose Mourinho winning the competition with the Italian team in 2010 thanks to a pragmatic style of football.

Luciano Spalletti is now in charge and bet365 make them slight favourites to beat Tottenham on Tuesday evening, with the leading bookmaker going 2.60 about an Inter side who will want to make a strong start in a difficult group.

Indeed, with Barcelona waiting in the wings, it’s likely that these two teams could be battling it out for the runner-up berth and Spurs will hope for the sort of success that saw them win in Dortmund and draw away to Real Madrid last term.

The London side are 2.75 for the victory, with Spurs fairly fresh from winning at Old Trafford by a 3-0 scoreline although they will have to be careful of certain players operating for Inter.

Mauro Icardi scored twenty-nine goals in a blue and black shirt last season and he’s 5.00 to open the scoring in this clash, although the Argentine failed to impress for his national side on a recent outing.

Meanwhile, Harry Kane leads the line for the visitors and England, so it’s little surprise that he’s priced up at 5.50 to break the deadlock at the San Siro and put his team on course for a victory.

Inter have begun the season in a slightly underwhelming fashion, losing away to Sassuolo and drawing at home to Torino before a 3-0 triumph away to Bologna.

They are probably strongest in midfield due to the presence of Ivan Perisic, Marcelo Brozovic and Radja Nainggolan, with the latter having helped Roma reach the semi-finals of the Champions League last season.

A draw looks like the obvious play here, with both teams capable from a defensive point-of-view and not wanting to lose their opener and face an uphill struggle to get out of the group.
