Europa League Last 32 Betting Preview
The 2017/18 Europa League looks like a particularly strong renewal and many teams at the head of the betting are among the best in Europe.
Atletico Madrid are more accustomed to featuring at the business end of the Champions League and Diego Simeone’s side available at 5.00 (4/1) with Ladbrokes to prove their class and claim this prestigious piece of silverware.
Atleti sit second in La Liga at the time of writing, with the team suffering against Chelsea and Roma in the Champions League although Diego Costa has returned to the club to give them a much-needed boost.
Much depends on the motivation of Atleti and the same applies to Arsenal who are a 7.00 (6/1) shot with Unibet . The Gunners might consider this competition as a good potential route back to the Champions League in the same way that Manchester United managed last season.
Arsene Wenger might well focus on the Europa League as a last-gasp attempt to land some silverware this term, with the Frenchman’s time at the London club coming to an end, although the squad could be short of quality.
Napoli are probably the best side in the competition and they are 13.00 (12/1) with Unibet to show their pedigree although the price reflects that the Azzurri will be competing hard for the Serie A title and the Europa League might prove a distraction.
Borussia Dortmund were another Champions League casualty and the German side are 12.00 (11/1) with Unibet who seem happy to lay many of the favourites on their outright market.
Dortmund have had a poor domestic season to date despite sitting third in the table, with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang capable of firing them to glory.
There could be a strong Italian presence at the business end of the Europa League this season, with Milan and Lazio hoping to make good progress and the Rossoneri are 15.00 (14/1) with Unibet to show they are a club back on the rise, while the Rome team are 17.00 (16/1) with the same bookmaker.
Perhaps RB Leipzig could offer better value at odds of 26.00 (25/1) with bet365 and it’s worth noting that this team competed well in the Champions League before being edged out by Besiktas and Porto.
We regularly see big-priced teams feature in the latter stage of the Europa League and perhaps we might see a team like Lyon or Villarreal come through a few qualifying rounds, while all of the sides in the competition either finished in the top two of their qualifying group or third in a Champions League section.
