Outright Winner Copa America 2020 Betting Tips & Predictions
The 2020 Copa America starts on 12 June and we’re looking forward to the best teams in South America battling it out in this prestigious tournament, with Brazil arriving in Colombia (and potentially Argentina) as the reigning champions.
Tite’s team were arguably the best side at the 2018 World Cup and were able to make home advantage count a year later when winning the 2019 renewal of the Copa America, although it’s worth noting that they needed penalties to beat Paraguay in the quarterfinals.
Brazil have some wonderful players within the ranks including Neymar, Roberto Firmino and Philippe Coutinho, although they might not have things their own way and it’s worth noting that the Brazilians failed to win any of the previous three Copa America tournaments.
Argentina are the Copa America co-hosts and La Albiceleste will enjoy playing their group games in front of passionate supporters, with this tournament potentially representing the last time that Lionel Messi plays in this tournament.
Argentina have been the perennial bridesmaids over the past few years, losing in the final in 2004, 2007, 2015 and 2016. There continues to be question marks over the defence, with the erratic Nicolas Otamendi the most experienced operator at the back.
We’re going to pass over the front two in the betting market and instead opt for Colombia who will also enjoy home advantage during the group stage and hopefully into the knockout phase of the tournament.
Los Cafeteros won this competition in 2001 when they hosted it on their own and it’s worth noting that Carlos Queiroz’s team would play the final in Barranquilla should they make it through.
It will certainly prove an incentive for a team who were knocked out of the 2018 World Cup by England on penalties and they finished top of their Copa America group last summer before being beaten by Chile on penalties.
The slight concern with the Colombians is that they’re short of firepower and it’s possible that Alfredo Morelos can be the surprise package of the tournament considering that the Rangers striker has been prolific in Scotland this season.
Juan Cuadrado adds quality in midfield and the Juventus midfielder is joined by Wilmar Barrios and Mateus Uribe who have plenty of international experience too.
David Ospina continues to be a safe pair of hands between the sticks and you can’t underestimate the power of home advantage in South America considering that conditions can often be alien to certain teams.
There are likely to be other teams who have a major impact at the tournament and that includes Chile who often come to life in the Copa America.
They are trading at 14.00 (13/1) to win this latest tournament, while Uruguay are trading at around 11.00 (10/1) and still boast that experienced squad who can go deep in the tournament.
