Derby v Aston Villa Betting Tips
We’ve got an exciting Championship play-off final on Bank Holiday Monday, with two Midlands team heading to Wembley hoping to seal a place in the Premier League next season.
Aston Villa were the first team to reach the final after overcoming West Brom over two legs and they’re the favourites to triumph at the national stadium, with Dean Smith’s side beating the Baggies in a penalty shootout after the tie finished 2-2 on aggregate.
The Villans did finish the campaign strongly and landed ten consecutive wins to make sure of their play-off spot, although they weren’t convincing against Albion in either match and there seems to be an over-reliance on Jack Grealish to make the magic happen.
Indeed, it was West Brom who looked the likely winners until Chris Brunt was sent off and we’re not convinced they will dominate against a Derby team who squeezed into the play-offs on the final day of the season before coming from 2-0 down on aggregate to beat Leeds.
The Rams looked down and out at Elland Road until a goal on the stroke of half-time hauled them back in the tie and a frenetic second-half eventually saw County triumph although Scott Malone’s red card means that he’ll be suspended for this big clash.
Even so, Frank Lampard’s team have shown they are the team for the big occasion multiple times this season. Mason Mount was outstanding at Leeds and will look to outshine Grealish at Wembley, while Harry Wilson has set piece prowess and we think Jack Marriott will be knocking the door down to start after his brace in the second leg.
As with the tie against Leeds, Derby will feel they have a point to prove against a team who beat them 7-0 on aggregate during the regular season, with Aston Villa winning 3-0 at Pride Park before a 4-0 win at Villa Park.
This will be a different Derby beast at Wembley and we’re confident that they can avoid defeat at the very least. Take them on the Asian Handicap at a backable price.
