Leeds v Derby Championship betting preview and tips
There’s a good old-fashioned rivalry being renewed on Friday night when Derby County head to Elland Road for a fixture which invokes memories of Don Revie clashing with Brian Clough for some of the older supporters.
Wind the clock forward and both of these clubs are bidding to return to the top flight, with Leeds currently top of the Championship table although the caveat is that the Whites have lost their last three matches in all competitions.
After snaring dramatic victories over Aston Villa and Blackburn, Leeds were turned over at home to Hull City before another defeat against Nottingham Forest.
The Yorkshire side were then knocked out of the FA Cup by QPR and there is a fair degree of pressure on them coming into a clash against a Derby County team who are also aiming to get promoted this season.
The Rams sit sixth in the Championship table and have amassed 43 points from 26 games played, with the loan signings of Mason Mount and Harry Wilson proving to be particularly adept on behalf of Frank Lampard.
Jack Marriott is also on double figures for the season and the former Peterborough striker recently scored the winner in a 4-3 victory at Norwich, with Lampard keen for his teams to attack.
The Midlands team often raise their game away to the tougher teams as can be seen from an EFL Cup victory away to Manchester United in addition to turning West Brom over at The Hawthorns.
Derby showed fighting spirit when coming back from two goals down to draw 2-2 against Southampton on Saturday and perhaps they can run Leeds close in this clash, with County wanting a revenge of sorts after losing 4-1 to the same opponents earlier in the season.
On that showing, it appeared United were the team to beat in the Championship although Marcelo Bielsa’s team aren’t much ahead of the other sides in the league and we wouldn’t be surprised to see this clash end all square.
