West Brom sit top of the Championship and they have a seven-point cushion over third-placed Brentford as the Baggies remain on course for automatic promotion to the Premier League after a two-year hiatus.

Interestingly, Slaven Bilic’s side have been more impressive away from The Hawthorns where they have racked up 29 points compared to the 24 on home soil, with Albion’s home win rate actually less than 50%.

West Brom welcome Stoke City on Monday evening and things might not be as straightforward as the odds suggest, with the Potters currently in a scrap to stay in the Championship but faring pretty well under Michael O’Neill.

The Northern Ireland manager is currently performing a dual role with club and country, with O’Neill looking to make the former harder to beat after Stoke previously sat rock bottom of the Championship table under Nathan Jones.

City have been on the road quite a lot recently and while they lost at Brentford and Fulham, these defeats were only by a solitary goal and it’s clear that they will operate the same defensive approach at The Hawthorns against a dangerous attacking team.

There was also a 5-2 victory at Huddersfield where O’Neill allowed his troops some freedom although a point from this fixture would be a fantastic outcome considering that three of the next four clashes are at the bet365 Stadium.

Jack Butland remains a solid pair of hands at Championship level and the centre back combination of Danny Batth and Bruno Martins Indi should make life hard for the Baggies, while James McClean will experience a warm reception on his return to West Brom.

Perhaps Bilic’s side will find a way to win this contest, although we’ll take a punt on two goals or less being scored in this clash at attractive odds. It’s clear that the visitors will want to make life difficult.
