You wait ages for a north London derby and then two come along at once. Neither team will have wanted to face each other at the quarter final stage of the League Cup, although only one of them will now make the final four and it’s Arsenal who are firm favourites.

The Gunners are trading at 2.20 and it’s easy to see why. They are unbeaten at home this season since losing against Manchester City in their opening match and they can include Spurs among their most recent scalps after wiping the floor with Unai Emery’s side and winning 4-2.

It was clear from that game that Arsenal understood the meaning of a north London derby and they will be fired up for this encounter against a Spurs side who come into the game off the back of a Champions League clash at the Nou Camp and a home tie with Burnley.

Mauricio Pochettino will also be conscious of a trip to Goodison Park on Sunday but his team were strong enough to win 3-1 at West Ham in the previous round of the EFL Cup, with the likes of Dele Alli, Christian Eriksen and Heung-Min Son playing their part.

Even so, Arsenal have the reduced fixture list, home advantage and appetite to win cup competitions such as this one. Unai Emery can’t house all his players in one team and he will have the likes of Laurent Koscielny, Nacho Monreal, Alex Iwobi and Henrikh Mkhitaryan itching to get a chance to play.

The Emirates Stadium is capable of generating a big noise for derby clashes such as this one and Emery certainly understands the important of winning trophies after previously doing exactly this during his time at Sevilla and Paris Saint-Germain.
