Aston Villa v Man City Betting Tips & Predictions
Manchester City are bidding to win the EFL Cup for the third consecutive occasion on Sunday, with Pep Guardiola’s side having beaten Arsenal and Chelsea in the previous two finals.
As you might expect, the Citizens are massive favourites to win the game in normal time, having put six past the same opponents a few weeks ago at Villa Park and it’s difficult to see how Dean Smith’s side are going to be competitive over ninety minutes.
While Manchester City are going to fall short in their Premier League title defence and have also been hit by a Champions League ban in recent days, they will still be hungry to put on a show at Wembley Stadium and bag some early silverware.
The match comes four days after a tough Champions League encounter at the Bernabeu and it’s likely that we’ll see the squad rotated accordingly, with Claudio Bravo likely to operate in goal and we’re likely to also see John Stones and Phil Foden make rare starts.
For Villa, reaching a domestic cup final in their first season back in the top flight is a decent achievement, although they were gift-wrapped a semi-final place after Liverpool fielded kids at Villa Park before the Midlands side overcame Leicester over two legs.
The underdogs would gladly swap a heavy defeat for Premier League survival and the manager was bemused by a recent 2-0 defeat at Southampton which could have been a good deal heavier.
The team have not kept a clean sheet in eleven matches and we can’t resist the chance to back Manchester City to run riot on the big occasion. They put six past Watford in last season’s FA Cup final and you have to argue that Villa aren’t as strong as the opponents that day.
Tyrone Mings is a formidable defender although he can’t put out fires on his own and we’re going with City -2 on the Asian Handicap where we’ll profit if the margin of victory is three goals or more.
