Manchester City were being linked to a quadruple last season but had to contend with simply winning the Premier League title in the end and there’s little doubt that the EFL Cup represents a low priority competition for Pep Guardiola.

Pep will give it the usual spiel about wanting to win everything although the Champions League looks increasingly like the holy grail and this clash against Fulham will see several young players fielded along with fringe members of the squad.

Phil Foden has been starting to get game time and the England prospect is likely to start this clash along with Gabriel Jesus, with Brazilian being deemed good enough to represent his country at the World Cup but unable to dislodge Sergio Aguero from the starting line-up.

City have a brilliant passing style of football and the personnel selected for this clash are likely to find themselves purring like the first team, with Fulham unlikely to live with them over the ninety minutes.

The Cottagers are clearly suffering in the Premier League this season and points have been particularly scarce since getting promoted, while goals have been shipped in every match they have played.

Slavisa Jokanovic won’t care too deeply about the EFL Cup as a result and this draw effectively means that their run in the competition is over, with the manager putting out a team who are capable of scoring but not winning the match.

We might see Aleksandar Mitrovic continue in attack to lead the line and he’s often good for a goal, while Alfie Mawson will provide a threat from a defensive position when his team win a set piece.
