There’s an intriguing FA Cup tie in store on Saturday teatime, with Millwall getting some escapism from their attempts to remain in the Championship when they entertain an Everton side who continue to prove unconvincing this season.

The Lions famously defeated Bournemouth, Watford and Leicester in this competition two seasons ago and manager Neil Harris will be targeting more success in the competition, with The Den capable of generating an intimidating atmosphere which can help Millwall to another surprise win.

It can’t be a coincidence that the above Premier League teams were turned over two years ago and Everton might not be at full-strength for this encounter seeing as there is now a penchant for top flight managers to rest key players despite the fact that this is an illustrious competition.

Although the London team sit twentieth in the Championship table, Millwall have decent home form of 6-4-4 at The Den which is in stark contrast to their points return on the road and they recently enjoyed a four-match winning run which started on Boxing Day and ended against Blackburn.

Shane Ferguson has recently been among the goals and that included the brace which helped Millwall beat Hull in the previous round of the competition, with Harris sure to have his troops fired up for a clash against an Everton side who have blustered along for much of the campaign.

Everton’s away form of 2-3-5 does not inspire confidence to back the Merseyside team at odds-on and the Boxing Day thrashing of Burnley at Turf Moor appears to be a freakish result considering that Marco Silva’s side then lost against Brighton and Leicester.

Silva is struggling to keep his team defensively tight and a trip to The Den in late January doesn’t make this an enticing prospect for a Premier League side who have a trip to Huddersfield three days later.
