Northampton vs Derby Betting Tips & Predictions
Northampton Town pulled off a surprise win at Burton Albion in the previous round of the FA Cup when winning 4-2 at the Pirelli Stadium. Their reward is a third round encounter against Derby County and that means Wayne Rooney will be among the visitors to the Sixfields Stadium.
The Cobblers are among the better teams in League Two this season and the target is clearly promotion, with manager Keith Curle having been given the opportunity to sign several new players last summer.
Recent form has been especially strong, with Northampton having won their previous four matches and that included a thumping 4-1 victory over Morecambe on Saturday.
Curle will be pleased that goals are being spread throughout the team, with Sam Hoskins in good scoring form at the moment, while Andy Williams is also likely to get the nod in attack against Championship opposition.
You can certainly make a case for the League Two side considering that Derby have not been particularly fluent on the road this season, even if Rooney’s January arrival has boosted their form.
The Rams are actually without an away win in the Championship since that opening game victory at Huddersfield, with Philip Cocu’s side having conceded an average of nearly two goals per away match.
Therefore, while Derby are six games unbeaten and did win at Crystal Palace in the previous round of the competition, we’re not expecting them to find things easy against an in-form Town side who look capable of at least earning a replay.
We can back Northampton at odds-against on the Asian Handicap market and benefit should the Cobblers avoid defeat, with the match likely to be a good deal closer than the odds suggest.
