Chelsea v Liverpool betting preview and tips
Six games played, six games won. Fourteen goals scored, two goals conceded. Top of the Premier League table and the outright odds shortening since the season began.
Jurgen Klopp is building something special at Anfield and a victory at Stamford Bridge on Saturday could see Liverpool shorten further to finish ahead of Manchester City and celebrate a first domestic crown since 1990.
There are lots of reasons why they can win this Premier League encounter, with Maurizio Sarri admitting that this weekend’s opponents are a step ahead of them at the moment, with the Italian needing another twelve months at Stamford Bridge to make his mark.
Chelsea are not a daft team and were enjoying a 100% record of their own until recently when drawing 0-0 at West Ham, although it was a fair result and the Hammers could have ended up getting a much bigger reward for their endeavours.
The slight problem is that the Blues have too much reliance on Eden Hazard to make things happen. While the Belgian is outrageous skilful with the ball and scores goals too, he needs players on a similar level to be completely effective for his team.
Liverpool have dangerous attacking players and Mohamed Salah played with a smile on his face against Southampton, with the Egyptian producing several bright moments throughout the match and his goal was a rather bundled effort from a rebound.
There will be a real tussle in midfield between James Milner and Jorginho, while N’Golo Kante and Jordan Henderson are also likely to be in combative mood and it will be interesting to see Chelsea’s strategy considering they are usually attack-minded but could get picked off by their opponents by pushing too far forward.
Klopp has that sturdy defence that looks unlikely to concede every time they step out on to the pitch and it was only a late consolation from Erik Lamela that enabled their defence to be breached against Tottenham.
