Premier League 2020/21 Relegation Betting Tips & Predictions
Two of the three promoted sides managed to stay afloat in the Premier League last season, with Sheffield United never looking in danger and Aston Villa improving after lockdown and staying afloat on the final day of the season thanks to a 1-1 draw at West Ham.
However, Norwich City went down by a comfortable margin and two of the three clubs who have just come up from the Championship currently head the Premier League relegation betting market for the 2020/21 season, with West Brom and Fulham trading at relatively short prices.
Both the Baggies and Cottagers have recently been in the top flight, with Slaven Bilic steering the Midlands team back to the Premier League at the first time of asking, while Scott Parker did the same in his first full year in charge of a Fulham side who came up through the play-offs.
However, it’s our prediction that Fulham will once again find life tough among the big boys and we’re happy to take them at betting odds of 2.10 (11/10) to go back down and essentially become the modern day yo-yo club who find themselves somewhere in between the two top divisions of English football.
Parker deserves credit for steering the west London outfit back to the promised land and Aleksandar Mitrovic had plenty of joy in front of goal the first time around, although the current squad looks well short of the required standard in order to stay afloat.
Players such as Anthony Knockaert, Tom Cairney and Josh Onomah are talented operators although the Fulham defence struggled badly two seasons ago and the current rearguard might have problems keeping the goals out.
We’re happier with a Fulham tip than going for the shorter priced Baggies who spent much of last season in the top two of the Championship before scrambling home, while Leeds United have been a Premier League team in waiting for the past two seasons.
Ultimately, three sides need to be relegated at the end of the season and it’s noticeable that Crystal Palace are trading at a fairly short price, with the Eagles slumping badly towards the end of the 2019-20 season and they look a viable option, especially if Wilfried Zaha engineers a move away.
Palace look as though they might need a change of manager and perhaps Roy Hodgson will make way at some stage, with Aston Villa another interesting candidate who spent much of last season not looking good enough before scrambling home.
Newcastle United are another interesting one despite Steve Bruce enjoying an excellent first season at St James’ Park. The proposed takeover of the north-east club has fallen through and perhaps they will struggle to score the requisite number of goals.
Sheffield United are regarded as relegation outsiders although it was only twelve months ago that the Blades were odds-on to go down before a ball was kicked, while perhaps Leeds aren’t as safe as houses as the odds suggest.
