Watford v Southampton Betting Tips
It might sound ridiculous but there’s an argument that Southampton are actually a better football team than Watford.
Although ten points separate the two clubs in the Premier League, it should be noted that the Hornets have had the steady hand of Javi Gracia at the tiller, while the Saints have struggled under Mark Hughes before Ralph Hasenhuttl has salvaged the campaign.
The visitors will arrive at Vicarage Road looking to achieve a strong finish to the season after recently pulling away from the drop zone, with the team eight points clear of relegation at the time of writing.
Hasenhuttl arrived with the reputation of being “The Alpine Klopp” and there have been a string of recent victories, including wins over Fulham, Tottenham, Brighton and Wolves.
They also served it up at Old Trafford only to lose narrowly and then did the same against Liverpool, with Southampton looking a decent bet on the Asian Handicap for this game.
At the time of writing, the visitors have scored in their previous six encounters, even with a distinct lack of forwards in the squad. Danny Ings has been beset by injuries and not scored since December, while Shane Long has barely been prolific throughout his career.
However, Nathan Redmond is enjoying the form of his life, having only started finding the net since 22 December and he’s promptly scored eight goals since then.
James Ward-Prowse has also been sparkling to the extent that he’s enjoyed an England call-up, with Pierre Hojberg the midfield anchorman who can make an impact.
As for Watford, they will be missing the suspended Troy Deeney for this encounter and it’s possible that they will be looking ahead to a future FA Cup final now.
The Hornets are still a tough opponent and they will have Gerard Deulofeu back in the team for this clash, although they have failed to win 50% of their home matches this season and the same could happen here.
