Austria v Poland Euro 2020 betting preview and tips
Austria and Poland are the two favourites to emerge from Group G and into the Euro 2020 finals, with the teams clashing at the Ernst-Happel-Stadion on 21 March.
This showdown in encounter is an opportunity for both sides to get early points on the board, although it’s Austria who are favoured to enjoy an early victory, with Franco Foda’s side enjoying some strong recent form.
The Austrians managed to win home and away against Northern Ireland in the UEFA Nations League, while they should really have won the goalless draw against Bosnia back in November where there were plenty of chances that had gone begging.
Julian Baumgartlinger is an experienced campaigner who leads the team out and is currently enjoying a good season with Bayer Leverkusen, while many of his international team-mates also play for Bundesliga clubs and that includes Bayern Munich star David Alaba.
Marko Arnautovic boasts a strong goal record for his national team and is highly motivated by wearing the shirt, with the home side looking to take advantage of a team who didn’t show up at the 2018 World Cup and were out at the end of the group stage.
While Poland still have Robert Lewandowski leading the line and Juventus goalkeeper Wojciech Szczęsny between the sticks, the remainder of the squad appears to be somewhat lacking and they were relegated from the Nations League group in the past few months.
A 1-1 draw away to Portugal followed three consecutive defeats against the Portuguese, Italy and Czech Republic. The last time that the Poles tasted victory was a 1-0 win against Japan at the 2018 World Cup but that came after defeats against Senegal and Colombia.
Therefore, the balance currently isn’t right and it might take a while for Jerzy Brzęczek to get the right blend, with defeat not exactly a disaster considering the other teams are likely to be there for the taking.
