Holland v Belarus Nations League betting preview and tips
The Netherlands have the small matter of a UEFA Nations League tournament taking place in the summer, with the Dutch amazingly finishing top of a group which also included France and Germany.
Ronald Koeman finished his time with Everton on a sour note although the Netherlands legend has made a massive impact with the national team in a short space of time, with Dutch football enjoying a resurgence thanks to Ajax’s brilliant run in the Champions League.
The players will be very confident of a routine win from this game in Rotterdam, with the Dutch already assured of a play-off place at Euro 2020 thanks to their continued participation in the Nations League.
Holland have a strong Liverpool connection by virtue of having Virgil van Dijk and Gini Wijnaldum who are both playing a key role in the Reds’ Premier League title assault, while there are also several Ajax players in the ranks.
Matthijs de Ligt, Daley Blind, Frenkie de Jong and Donny van de Beek all play for the Amsterdam club, while Memphis Depay has enjoyed arguably his best season to date representing Lyon.
One can’t underestimate the boost thanks to beating elite nations, with Belarus a far more modest team who were in UEFA Nations League D most recently. They did acquit themselves well enough to land promotion during their head-to-head matches with Moldova and Luxembourg.
However, two goalless draws against the former doesn’t inspire confidence and the majority of players feature in the uncompetitive Belarus domestic league, with Lokeren’s Anton Saroka probably their star turn.
With all this in mind, we’re happy to go for the Netherlands to record a victory without conceding and get their Euro 2020 qualifying campaign off to the perfect start.
Koeman will want to build on that Nations League success and also make sure his team are in good shape ahead of the summer showdown in Portugal.
