Manchester City and Schalke played out an entertaining clash in Germany a few weeks ago, with the English champions taking the lead before conceding two first-half penalties.

When Nicolas Otamendi was sent off, it appeared City would be facing a first leg deficit although Leroy Sane’s beautiful free-kick allied to Raheem Sterling’s late winner means that Pep Guardiola’s team are sitting pretty.

Guardiola will want to get this tie settled quickly and we can expect an attacking approach against a side who were defensively found wanting in the first leg and they are not pulling up any trees in the Bundesliga this term.

Schalke are in the difficult position of needing to score at least twice at the Etihad after conceding three goals, although the visitors really do need to get on the front foot and that could be a dangerous exercise against opponents who don’t need an invitation to get forward.

Another high-scoring encounter could be on the cards and we’re happy to bet on four goals or more being scored, with City likely to run in the goals and heads likely to drop in the Schalke camp once they fall further behind.

Guardiola might rest players although squad members are able to do a job and this is a side who have regularly ran up large numbers of goals on home soil.

Man City have scored fifty goals in fifteen home matches this term in the Premier League and that sort of average can be replicated against a team who would be no more than relegation strugglers in the Premier League.

Schalke recently lost 3-0 away to Mainz in the Bundesliga and they have lost half of their away games this term, so you can’t feel confident that they will leave with anything other than a sound beating.
