Tottenham Hotspur achieved a brilliant outcome at White Hart Lane when beating Manchester City by a 1-0 scoreline. Not only do they take a Champions League quarter-final advantage to the Etihad Stadium but they also managed to prevent City scoring an away goal.

However, the victory did come at a cost with Harry Kane having damaged his ankle during the second-half of the match and Spurs must therefore head to the north-west without their star striker and captain.

Mauricio Pochettino knows that a draw will be enough to ensure that Tottenham make a probable semi-final against Juventus, although he will surely not aim for a goalless draw considering that City can be devastating in front of their own fans.

Spurs recently lost 2-1 at Anfield and the same outcome against Manchester City would mean they go through on away goals, with Pep Guardiola likely to have his team fired up from kick-off after a fairly lacklustre first leg performance.

Guardiola clearly wanted his City team to contain Spurs and it was a task that was nearly achieved, with Son Heung-Min somehow contriving to forge a scoring opportunity towards the end of the match before firing past Ederson.

Earlier in the match, Sergio Aguero had passed up a golden chance to score after City were awarded a spot kick, with Kevin de Bruyne and Leroy Sane making second-half substitute appearances and the pair will surely start in this second leg.

City are generally fast out of the blocks and it could be worth siding with the champions of England to get their noses in front by the interval before going on to win the match.

Whether or not a victory for Manchester City will be enough to go through remains to be seen, with Spurs only having to lose by a single goal such as 2-1, 3-2 or even 4-3 in order to go through on away goals.

However, the absence of Kane from the starting line-up is a big miss and we’re happy to get with City to get the job done.
