There’s an interesting situation at the Etihad Stadium on Wednesday night despite the fact that Manchester City are already qualified for the last sixteen stage of the Champions League.

City have amassed ten points from their five matches played which means they’ll be mixing it with the other big boys from next February, although Pep Guardiola will want to make sure of top spot.

Due to an inferior head-to-head record against Lyon over two games, it means that the Premier League champions need to secure a point to be certain of finishing top of the section.

Being top of the group means avoiding other group winners in the last sixteen stage and that includes Barcelona, Juventus and Real Madrid.

Meanwhile, Hoffenheim sit bottom of Group F and can’t make the last sixteen stage of the Champions League, although they can qualify for the Europa League should they manage to pinch a win at the Etihad Stadium.

The German side have to believe and they’ll take the example of Lyon and hope to run with it, although an attacking approach could be very dangerous against arguably the best team in Europe right now.

Hoffenheim have been defensively porous in the competition so far, conceding twelve goals in their five games played although they did take an early lead over City in the reverse fixture before losing 2-1.

The remainder of their matches have seen at least four goals scored and we shouldn’t be surprise to witness a goalfest here, with Julian Nagelsmann not prepared to compromise his attacking principles when it comes to this team.

Guardiola is likely to give several first-team players a rest although the system remains the same and various personnel can come in and make an impact including Gabriel Jesus who should fill his boots.
