PSG v Man Utd Champions League betting preview and tips
Poor old Manchester United. Spirits were high going into the Champions League first leg clash against Paris Saint-Germain and the Red Devils were actually sent off favourites to gain an advantage over the French champions.
However, ninety minutes later and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer had seen his team lose the game by a 2-0 scoreline along with the fact that Paul Pogba had been dismissed and there had been muscle injuries sustained by Jesse Lingard and Anthony Martial.
While the Norwegian will prepare his team to try and overturn the two-goal deficit in the Parc des Princes, the bottom line is that they are likely to be run ragged again and their deficiencies were brutally exposed by a PSG team who have strong claims to win this season’s competition.
The fact that Thomas Tuchel’s team were able to win the game without Neymar and Edinson Cavani illustrates why PSG are serious contenders to finally become European champions after firmly being bracketed in the bridesmaid category over the past few years.
Tuchel has his team playing a sumptuous brand of football and there is likely to be no mercy in the second leg where the electric pace of Kylian Mbappe will stretch the shaky United defence, even if David de Gea always takes some beating.
The midfield performances by Marco Verratti and Marquinhos were especially captivating at Old Trafford and showed up the fact that Pogba was the only central midfielder to offer any real creative ability alongside Ander Herrera and Nemanja Matic.
With Pogba absent from the visitors’ team, this could be a comfortable win for Paris and we’re happy to get with the home side to be leading at the break and full-time.
PSG will just want to put the tie to bed and then manage the tie until the final whistle, while Manchester United will look to play with pride and aim to avoid an embarrassing scoreline.
