Tottenham v Inter Milan Champions League preview and tips
A very simple situation exists for Tottenham Hotspur when they entertain Internazionale in the Champions League on 28 November.
If Spurs don’t win against their Italian opponents, then they will fail to qualify for the last sixteen stage of the competition considering that their head-to-head record will be inferior after losing 2-1 at the San Siro Stadium in their group opener.
Indeed, that’s where it all went wrong for Tottenham in this group, with the London side leading in that game until goals in the 86th and 90th minute swung the balance in favour of the Italian side.
Since then, Spurs have lost against Barcelona and landed four points from PSV, giving them only a glimmer of hope of going through and it’s clear that the visitors to Wembley will be doing their utmost to take a point from this clash.
The Serie A team have the confidence of knowing that they held Barca to a 1-1 draw at the San Siro recently, with Mauro Icardi cancelling out Malcom’s opener towards the end of the match and they are canny operators in this situation.
Indeed, it’s a surprise to see Tottenham trading at such short odds to claim the spoils, with Mauricio Pochettino’s side struggling to beat PSV in their previous game and it was only a late Harry Kane brace that swung the game in their favour.
Kane has been on the scoresheet in three of the previous four Tottenham matches and he clearly carries a threat, although the same can be said of Icardi who has scored important goals in three of his team’s four encounters.
Take the attractive odds about this ending all square which would effectively subject Spurs to a Europa League campaign which might at least give them a chance of winning a trophy this season.
