Rapid Vienna v Rangers Europa League betting preview and tips
Europa League Group G is wide open going into the final round of matches, with Villarreal, Rapid Vienna, Rangers and Spartak Moscow all competing on Thursday night in a bid to reach the last 32 of the competition.
Rangers are clearly rejuvenated under Steven Gerrard, a rookie manager who is making waves at Ibrox and it’s not out of the question that the blue half of Glasgow will be celebrating a domestic title success in May.
It would be the icing on the cake if the Gers managed to continue their European participation until the New Year and they’ve acquitted themselves well by landing one victory and three draws in their five games played so far.
It should also be borne in mind that the Scottish side came through several qualifying rounds and are not prepared to relinquish the chance for further participation and some glory should they make it to the business end.
Even so, Rangers have only won one match during the group stage, with that coming against Rapid Vienna where two late goals swung the match in their direction en route to a 3-1 triumph.
On the road, the Gers have been defensively porous, with a 2-2 draw at Villarreal probably their best performance of the lot, while Rangers conceded four times in Moscow as they led three times before losing 4-3 against Spartak.
Rapid know that they only need a draw in order to go through to the last 32, with having opened the campaign with a 2-0 win over Spartak before a goalless draw against Villarreal.
Therefore, we can expect the Austrian side to put up a tough challenge and not concede many goals. While the standard of their domestic league is not particularly high, they have the knowhow to get the job done.
