Switzerland v England Betting Tips & Predictions
We’re surprised that England are such big favourites to win this Nations League third place play-off, with the Three Lions clashing with Switzerland in Guimarães.
Gareth Southgate’s team were beaten in extra-time by the Netherlands on Thursday night, with defensive errors allowing the Dutch to reach the Nations League final at their expense.
Southgate is likely to make several changes to the team that lost that particular game, with Harry Kane, Jordan Henderson and Dele Alli in a position to start the game after making appearances from the bench against the Dutch.
Switzerland acquitted themselves well against Portugal on Wednesday night and were minutes away from going into extra-time before Cristiano Ronaldo popped up with a quickfire double to seal the deal for his team.
The Swiss are a massive price to win this third place play-off, especially considering that they’ve enjoyed an extra day of recovery, while Southgate admitted after the game against the Netherlands that fatigue clearly played a part.
Vladimir Petkovic’s team are into the Nations League finals on merit, having finished top of a group that also included Belgium and that 5-2 win over the Red Devils where Switzerland came back from two goals down will live long in the memory.
It should be noted that the Swiss looked more dangerous than the Portuguese for large parts of their semi-final and they’re more than capable of getting at least a draw against England.
England have some excellent players within their ranks but continue to show defensive frailties and the individual errors that occurred against the Dutch could easily occur again.
Southgate is encouraging his team to play the ball out from the back, although the players don’t always seem comfortable with that style of play and we could see a hotly-contested match potentially go to extra-time again.
