The 2019/20 Scottish Premiership season begins on Saturday 3 August, although the big game of the weekend takes place a day later when Kilmarnock clash with Glasgow Rangers.

While the visitors are trading as strong favourites to kick off their campaign with a maximum haul, it’s hard to justify their odds-on quote considering that Steven Gerrard’s team didn’t have a particularly good win ratio on the road last term.

Indeed, Rangers only landed nine victories away from Ibrox which meant their win ratio was less than 50%, even if they were far stronger on home soil by winning fourteen matches and drawing four.

Similarly, Kilmarnock were not far behind the Gers in the overall 2018/19 standings, with eleven points separating the two sides and Killie will fancy their chances of getting at least a draw out of this encounter.

The only slight downside with backing the home team is that the effective Steve Clarke earned himself the position of Scotland national team manager thanks to his efforts at Rugby Park.

It means that Angelo Alessio comes in as manager and the former Chelsea assistant manager is unpredictable as to what he will bring to this team.

The Italian has been part of the coaching staff with Juventus and the Italian national team, although Scottish football is a different kettle of fish and it might take Alessio time to adjust to things.

The two teams played each other an incredible seven times last season, with Kilmarnock winning two and drawing one of the four matches that were played at Rugby Park.

Killie were also able to land two 1-1 draws at Ibrox and we’re therefore going to back them on the Asian Handicap in this clash with half a goal start. It’s not clear why Rangers should be so short to win a match between two evenly-matched sides and this has become something of a grudge match.
