Cheltenham Gold Cup Betting Tips & Predictions
We’ve got a typically wide open Gold Cup for the 2020 Cheltenham Festival, with six horses trading at single figure odds at the time of writing.
That includes last year’s winner AL BOUM PHOTO who has had a perfect preparation as the horse aims to land that rare task of retaining a Gold Cup, with Willie Mullins having raced him just once this season.
There was little to glean from the horse’s victory on New Year’s Day at Tramore, with Paul Townend steering him to a straightforward win in a Grade 3 contest on soft ground and it looks likely that he’ll be sent off favourite.
The horse also likely to be vying for favouritism is Santini, with the Nicky Henderson horse springing to the top of the market after his most recent win where he showed an impressive turn of speed to win at Cheltenham.
This victory at the end of January saw Santini kick well clear of Bristol De Mai, with the horse having raced at last year’s Festival where Topofthegame beat him into second.
Some say that the horse might not get up the hill, with Delta Work representing star trainer Gordon Elliott and the runner finished third in the RSA Novices’ Chase last year before kicking on.
Recent wins at Leopardstown saw him land a Grade 1 success over Christmas when beating Kemboy and Presenting Percy, while there was then an Irish Gold Cup success where the same horses were beaten.
There are stacks of horses in contention, with Lostintranslation trading at around the 13/2 mark although the horse was pulled up last time out and that has to be a concern for trainer Colin Tizzard.
The trainer later said that the horse had a breathing problem and perhaps he can be overlooked in favour of Presenting Percy who was trading among the favourites for the 2019 Gold Cup.
Percy hasn’t scored a victory this season and really hasn’t kicked on since winning the RSA Chase two years ago, with the horse only managing an eighth-placed finish in the Gold Cup last year and there’s little reason to think we’ll see much improvement.
A horse that could outrun his odds is Chris’s Dream and the Henry de Bromhead-trained charge landed a Grade 2 Chase victory at Gowran Park in the middle of February, with this runner trading at a bigger price.
