EFL Cup third round preview and tips – 25/26 September
This is the round of the EFL Cup where the teams playing in Europe get involved in the action, with Manchester City the current favourites to win the competition.
Pep Guardiola’s side are 5.00 with bet365 to win the EFL Cup, while Manchester United take cup competitions seriously under Jose Mourinho and they are a 7.00 shot to get the job done.
Tottenham are 8.00 to win and Liverpool are 9.00, although the latter are facing a Chelsea team who are 10.00 for the overall triumph and this represents the match of the tournament.
Jurgen Klopp and Maurizio Sarri will clearly field weakened teams for their clash on Wednesday night, with Liverpool trading as 1.95 favourites to win although it’s not a competition that the German will be treating with massive regard.
The same applies to Chelsea although they’re only in the Europa League and it might be that Sarri wants to go far in the EFL Cup and potentially claim a Premier League and cup double. The Blues are 3.75 to get over the line in this one.
On Tuesday night, the televised tie takes place at Old Trafford where Frank Lampard takes his Derby County team in search of a victory.
Bet365 go 1.28 that the Red Devils claim a straightforward win over the Rams, with the cameras sure to be on the touchline where Jose Mourinho is likely to embrace his former loyal subject several times.
Derby are 8.50 to win the game at Old Trafford, with lots of other potential shocks on the cards on Tuesday night, with Burton priced at 3.90 for the victory over a Burnley team likely to completely disregard this competition.
Oxford are 15.00 to get the better of a Manchester City reserve team at the Kassam Stadium, although the tournament favourites are 1.18 to claim a victory and send them safely into the last sixteen of the tournament.
Another notable tie includes Arsenal against Brentford, with the Bees potentially playing the Gunners in the Premier League next season and the visitors are a 9.00 poke to enjoy a victory against Unai Emery’s side.
Emery continues to figure out his Arsenal squad although he would like to win something in his first season at the club, with bet365 going 1.33 about a home victory.
Tottenham meet Watford at Stadium MK and it’s surprising to see Spurs trading so short at 1.40 to claim the EFL Cup win, with the Hornets available at 9.00 and they could be good value at that price.
