Championship matches don’t come any bigger than the Brian Clough derby, with Derby County making the short journey to the City Ground on Monday night hoping to kickstart their promotion campaign after losing at home to Millwall last week.

A win for the Rams will take them above Bristol City and back into the play-off places, although it’s been six wins from sixteen away matches for Frank Lampard’s side and so it’s hard to be too confident about their chances.

Perhaps the cup competitions are taking their toll on the Rams and it’s been just one win in the past five matches, while the last time that Derby won an away game in the Championship was against Norwich at the end of December.

Jack Marriott is without a goal in his past five matches and Nottingham Forest will sniff blood, with Martin O’Neill starting to get a tune out of the squad and they know a win will move them just a point behind their arch-rivals.

O’Neill will understand the importance of this fixture, with Forest having recently beaten Brentford and Wigan at the City Ground, while they were also unlucky not to win at West Brom before a creditable goalless draw at Preston.

There is plenty of firepower within the Forest ranks and Lewis Grabban could be the match winner for the home side, with Daryl Murphy hoping to get back on the goal trail and he has previously worked with his manager at international level.

Forest have won 50% of their home matches this season and they will be going all out for the victory which won’t only give them bragging rights but also an opportunity to make a late promotion assault.

Derby had just one shot on target in their last match against Millwall and could be hitting the buffers at exactly the wrong time.
