The history of Italy's Serie A

The inaugural Serie A football season took place in 1929-30, with Ambrosiana-Inter winning on that occasion, although Juventus established an early dominance by landing five consecutive titles during the 1930’s.

Bologna then became a big force in Italian football, scooping the Scudetto titles in 1936, 1937, 1939 and 1941. Torino came to the fore later in the 1940’s, while the 1950’s saw Milan establish themselves as a force in Serie A.

More recently, there have been particular teams who have established a monopoly in Serie A, with Juventus having won six consecutive titles between 2012 and 2017 and the Turin side also enjoyed plenty of success in the Champions League during this time.

Previously to this, Internazionale dominated during a time where Jose Mourinho was manager of the club, with the Milan outfit claiming five consecutive Scudettos between 2006-10.

During the 1990’s, Milan were seemingly the team to beat, with the golden team winning three Serie A league titles between 1992-4, while the Rossoneri were also victorious in 1996 and 1999.
