FIFA World Cup Betting Preview: South Korea vs Czech Republic

South Korea and Czech Republic meet in this FIFA World Cup Group A encounter at Guadalajara Stadium (Estadio Akron) in Mexico, with kick-off set for 22:00 on Thursday 11 June.

Group A also features tournament co-hosts Mexico and South Africa. The bookies make Mexico clear favourites to top the group, with South Korea and the Czech Republic viewed as the main challengers. South Africa are the outsiders of the four teams.

BTTS No Could Be the Best Angle

We’re keen to head to the Both Teams to Score market and take the -110 about the No selection which looks like value.

South Korea head coach Hong Myung-Bo has adopted a safety-first approach and has recently experimented with a back five, believing that four defenders may not provide enough protection at World Cup level.

The Czech Republic appear short of quality goalscoring options and with this match likely to have a major bearing on second place in the group, we expect a cautious approach from both sides. Add in the hot and humid conditions in Guadalajara, along with the fact that BTTS No has landed in 14 of South Korea's last 15 matches and the case for backing this selection becomes even stronger.

South Korea Qualified in Style

South Korea qualified for the World Cup after coming through their 16 qualifying matches unbeaten, scoring 40 goals and conceding just eight. The Taegeuk Warriors rounded off the campaign with a convincing 4-0 home win against Kuwait.

Preparations for the World Cup have gone smoothly, with South Korea winning both of their pre-tournament friendlies at BYU South Field in Utah. They thrashed Trinidad & Tobago 5-0 before edging El Salvador 1-0.

The Czech Republic missed out on automatic qualification after finishing second behind Croatia in their qualifying group, but they eventually booked their place at the World Cup through the UEFA play-offs.

Playing on home soil, Miroslav Koubek's side defeated Ireland on penalties in the semi-final before overcoming Denmark in another shootout after a 2-2 draw following extra time in the final at epet Arena in Prague. The Czechs were forced to play without much of the ball, finishing with just 23% possession and five shots on target, while Pavel Sulc and Ladislav Krejci both got on the scoresheet.

The Czech Republic have also played two recent friendlies in preparation for the tournament, beating Kosovo 2-1 at epet Arena before recording a 3-1 victory over Guatemala at Sports Illustrated Stadium in Harrison, New Jersey.

Head-to-Head Statistics

The last meeting between South Korea and the Czech Republic came in a 2016 friendly, with South Korea winning 2-1 at Fortuna Arena in Prague.
